DRC Defense Minister Sets Reconquest of Occupied Territories as Top Priority for 2026

Kinshasa, January 11, 2026 - Kinshasa | January 1, 2026 - The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, has declared the restoration of state authority across the national territory and the reconquest of currently occupied areas as his top priorities for 2026.

In a New Year message addressed to the nation, Kabombo underscored the determination of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to defend national sovereignty and ensure the protection of civilians throughout the country.

He paid tribute to soldiers who have fallen in the line of duty, praising the FARDC’s continued commitment and loyalty to the national flag. “Darkness will not reign forever,” he said, expressing optimism that 2026 will be a year of hope and renewal for the Congolese people.

The Defense Minister reaffirmed his commitment to peace, security, and development, while calling on citizens to show solidarity, courage, and confidence in the future.

On December 31, a day earlier, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita carried out a working visit to Kalemie, in Tanganyika Province, where he assessed the operational capacity of the FARDC, with particular attention to military infrastructure.

During the visit, he chaired a closed-door strategic meeting at the headquarters of the 22nd Naval Force Group, in the presence of the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations and Intelligence. Discussions focused on security challenges and operational issues facing the unit.

The visit concluded with an inspection of logistical and technical facilities, including maintenance and operational support structures, aimed at evaluating working conditions for military personnel and identifying priority needs to strengthen defense capabilities in the region.
