Djugu: Baguru and Sesele Communities Strengthen Peaceful Coexistence in Ituri

Kinshasa, November 28, 2025 - Over the past several weeks, peaceful coexistence between the Baguru and Sesele communities has been intensifying in the Djugu territory, following a series of meetings organized by political, military, and traditional authorities.

Local civil society, led by Gédéon Dino, welcomed the rapprochement, which was notably illustrated by a large gathering in Kpadole. This event brought together prominent figures, members of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), civil society actors, and representatives of the armed groups MAPI and CODECO, with the aim of promoting peaceful coexistence.

Earlier in November, traditional leaders of both communities also participated in a peace meeting in Tchomia, further strengthening dialogue. The results of these efforts are already visible with the resumption of activities in previously dangerous areas, such as the “La Morgue” gold mining site.

Local stakeholders are calling for this momentum to be maintained to ensure lasting peace in this part of the Djugu territory.
