DGI Seals KCC Facilities in Kolwezi Over Nearly $3 Billion Tax Dispute

Kolwezi, July 10, 2026 - The General Directorate of Taxes (DGI) has sealed several facilities belonging to Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) in Kolwezi, Lualaba Province, amid a major tax dispute involving alleged arrears estimated at nearly US$3 billion.

The operation was carried out on Thursday by DGI agents accompanied by security personnel, leading to the suspension of activities at the affected sites of the mining company, a subsidiary of the Glencore Group.

According to tax authorities, the measure follows the company’s failure to settle significant tax obligations identified during a reassessment process. The DGI has not yet provided further details on the breakdown of the disputed amount or the timeline for resolving the matter.

KCC is one of the largest mining operators in Lualaba Province, with major copper and cobalt production activities in the Kolwezi area. The company plays a significant role in the local economy, employing thousands of direct and indirect workers and contributing to the province’s mining sector.

The sealing of the facilities comes as part of broader efforts by Congolese tax authorities to recover outstanding revenues and strengthen state revenue collection from major economic operators.
