Darfur Displacement Camps Face Growing Humanitarian Crisis as War Continues

TAWILA, July 5, 2026 - Humanitarian conditions in displacement camps across Darfur are deteriorating rapidly as the prolonged conflict continues to overwhelm basic services and limit access to vital assistance, raising concerns over the survival of millions of displaced people.

Displaced communities are facing severe shortages of food, clean water, and medical care, while the collapse of infrastructure and public services has placed additional pressure on already vulnerable populations. The health sector has been among the hardest hit, with many medical facilities no longer operating due to shortages of medicines, supplies, and personnel.

Women and children are bearing the greatest impact of the worsening crisis, with reports of increased malnutrition, psychological distress, and gender-based violence among displaced populations.

Health risks are also rising as infectious diseases, including malaria, measles, and watery diarrhoea, spread in overcrowded camps with limited sanitation facilities. The arrival of the rainy season has further increased fears of disease outbreaks as water and hygiene services remain severely inadequate.

The economic crisis has deepened the humanitarian emergency, with rising prices of essential goods and continued depreciation of the Sudanese pound making survival increasingly difficult for displaced families.

Humanitarian actors have called for urgent international action to increase food and medical assistance, restore healthcare services, and ensure that aid reaches affected communities without political restrictions.

They also urged the warring parties to end hostilities, warning that continued fighting could further worsen the suffering of millions of displaced people across Darfur, Kordofan, and the Blue Nile region.
