Cure Salée Festival Opens in In’Gall, Celebrating Niger’s Cultural Heritage and Social Cohesion

IN’GALL, Niger - On October 4, 2025, Niger’s iconic Cure Salée festival commenced in In’Gall, drawing nomadic pastoralist communities from across the country. Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine attended the opening, signaling the government’s commitment to cultural preservation and intercommunity cohesion.

The festival serves as a major economic hub, facilitating livestock trade, artisanal sales, and the exchange of essential goods. It also functions as a platform for conflict resolution, with community elders mediating disputes between herders and agro-pastoralists. Traditional music, dance, and storytelling reinforce cultural memory and ensure the transmission of knowledge across generations.

The 2025 theme, “Strengthening cohesion between herders and agro-pastoralists: a key lever for sustainable peace and development,” highlights efforts to address climate-induced resource competition and foster collaborative management of water and grazing lands.
