Clashes Erupt in Kazinga Between AFC/M23 Rebels and Wazalendo
Masisi, North Kivu - January 11, 2026 - Clashes broke out today between AFC/M23 rebels and Wazalendo forces in Kazinga, located in the Osso Banyungue sector of Masisi territory. Local sources reported that the Wazalendo attacked rebel positions beginning at 6:00 a.m., with heavy and light weapons fire heard throughout the area. Observers suggest the attack may be intended to preempt a rebel offensive on positions held by government forces and Wazalendo in the Nyamaboko 1 and 2 groups. This confrontation comes just two days after AFC/M23 reinforced positions in Kazinga and Kasopo, a move previously denounced by local traditional authorities. The situation remains tense, according to local sources.
