Clashes Continue Between AFC/M23 Rebels and FARDC in Kibati
WALIKALE, March 1, 2026 - Fighting resumed on Sunday, March 1, between AFC/M23 rebels and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), supported by the Wazalendo militia, in Kibati, Luberike area of Walikale territory, North Kivu.
Local sources reported that heavy and light weapons fire has been heard since 10:00 a.m., with the combat zone remaining highly tense.
As a result, traffic on the Mungazi-Kibati-Kashebere road remains suspended, leaving travelers stranded.
These clashes follow a government offensive launched on Saturday, February 29, targeting rebel positions in the strategic town. Authorities have not yet released a casualty report, and the situation on the ground remains fluid.
