Clashes Between Wazalendo and AFC-M23 Leave Four Dead in Walungu
Kinshasa, January 11, 2026 - At least four civilians were killed and several others wounded during clashes between Wazalendo fighters and AFC-M23 rebels in the Walungu territory of South Kivu.
The fighting, which began on Sunday and continued into Monday, January 5, 2026, affected the villages of Bumbalali, Mwendo, and Cirhavanyi.
Residents reported that several houses were damaged by bombs reportedly dropped by M23 forces, exacerbating the humanitarian impact. One local resident described experiencing extremely difficult conditions over the past 48 hours, highlighting the heavy toll on civilians in the area.
