Chad Accuses Sudanese Forces Of Drone Strike Inside Its Territory

N'Djamena, August 23, 2026 - Chad placed its military on high alert after accusing Sudanese forces or allied groups of carrying out drone strikes on a convoy inside Chadian territory, raising the risk that Sudan's civil war could spill further across the border.

Chad's General Staff said the strikes hit a column of vehicles in the Ennedi Est region, more than 100 km from the Sudanese frontier. General Alchanan Issakha Acheikh, director of military information for the Chadian army, said available information pointed to aircraft and drones belonging to Sudanese forces or affiliated groups.

The incident followed air raids on August 20 and August 21 targeting suspected Rapid Support Forces supply lines and reinforcements moving from border areas. Sudan's army has previously accused Chad of facilitating support to the RSF through airports in Amdjarass and N'Djamena, allegations denied by Chad and the United Arab Emirates.

Chad warned all warring parties not to carry the conflict into its territory and said it reserved the right to defend its sovereignty. The border region is already under pressure from the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Sudanese refugees since the war began in April 2023.

For Sudan, any escalation with Chad would complicate military logistics, humanitarian access, and regional diplomacy, while increasing the risk of a wider cross-border security crisis around Darfur and eastern Chad.
