Ceasefire Verification Mission Deploys To Minembwe
Minembwe, August 24, 2026 - The first EJVM+ ceasefire verification mission deployed to Minembwe in South Kivu, testing whether the Doha ceasefire framework can move from diplomatic commitments to field implementation.
The deployment followed talks held in Switzerland from August 17 to 21 and a MONUSCO-supported reconnaissance mission on August 20. The verification mechanism was created under the October 2025 Doha ceasefire arrangement.
Observers from the African Union, Qatar and the United States were involved, underscoring the international stakes in stabilizing eastern DRC.
The mission comes amid mutual accusations of ceasefire violations, making its access, credibility and reporting capacity important indicators for the security outlook in South Kivu and for broader investor risk assessments tied to eastern DRC.
