Calm Returns to Kilama After Three Days of Clashes Between AFC/M23 and Wazalendo

Kilama Rutshuru, February 11, 2026 - A gradual return to calm has been reported in Kilama, part of the Bambo group in Rutshuru territory, North Kivu, following three days of intense clashes between AFC/M23 rebels and Wazalendo fighters of the Collective of Movements for Change/People’s Defense Forces (CMC/FDP).

Local sources indicate that the fighting erupted on February 8, when AFC/M23 forces launched simultaneous attacks on Wazalendo positions in the villages of Mayengo and Bugabo, as well as in areas near Domaine in Kilama.

The assaults reportedly involved the use of kamikaze drones, heavy artillery, and aerial bombardment, followed by attempted ground advances. After several hours of intense combat, Wazalendo forces successfully repelled the rebels on all fronts, according to local reports.

The clashes prompted population movements, as residents sought safety in areas considered more secure. The return of calm comes as authorities and local communities monitor the situation to prevent renewed violence.
