Burkina Faso - Series of Deadly JNIM Attacks Rock the Eastern Region
Ouagadougou, November 23, 2025 - The Eastern Region of Burkina Faso experienced a new surge of violence on Sunday, November 23, in a series of coordinated attacks attributed to Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM). These incidents, spread across three provinces, left several civilians and state agents dead, while causing significant material destruction.
In Boudangou, armed individuals attacked the village, killing three civilians. Several shops were set ablaze during the assault, plunging the community into fear and deepening the displacement already affecting the area.
The situation in Komandougou remains unclear, with local sources providing conflicting accounts. While some report no fatalities, others mention multiple victims.Despite the uncertainty regarding the human toll, the burning of shops and several homes has been confirmed, highlighting the scale and brutality of the attack.
The deadliest of the attacks occurred in Tandyari, where gunmen targeted a forestry agent post. Approximately ten agents were reportedly killed. According to local sources, the attackers then seized weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and various operational equipment before retreating.
