Burkina Faso - JNIM Claims Responsibility for New Series of Attacks
Ouagadougou, November 28, 2025 - The jihadist coalition JNIM has claimed responsibility for a new wave of coordinated attacks carried out on November 23 across multiple regions of Burkina Faso, according to a statement released on Friday.
In the eastern region, the group says it targeted the Komandougou military post, located in the commune of Fada N’Gourma. The assault reportedly left five Burkinabe soldiers dead and resulted in the destruction of a military vehicle. JNIM also claims to have seized a DJI drone, motorcycles, several AK-47 assault rifles with magazines, as well as additional ammunition.
In the central-eastern region, the group asserts it carried out another attack on a military position in the province of Koulpélogo, where seven soldiers were allegedly killed. According to its communiqué, the assailants recovered multiple assault rifles, magazines, a large quantity of ammunition, several heavy machine guns, and an RPG rocket launcher with its equipment.
These latest claims highlight JNIM’s capacity to operate simultaneously on several fronts and to seize significant quantities of military equipment. They also underline the mounting pressure on Burkina Faso’s armed forces in the eastern and east-central regions, where attacks continue to intensify despite ongoing security operations.
