Burkina Faso Commemorates 20 Years of CIMDH with Focus on Human Rights and International Credibility
Ouagadougou, December 16, 2025 - Burkina Faso continues to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Interministerial Committee on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CIMDH), with a roundtable discussion emphasizing the theme: “Preserving Burkina Faso’s image and international credibility through respect for human rights and obligations under international humanitarian law.”
The event is chaired by Minister of Justice Edasso Rodrigue Bayala, President of the CIMDH, represented by Technical Advisor Julie Rose Ouedraogo. In her opening remarks, she highlighted the importance of balancing operational imperatives with adherence to national and international standards, a responsibility that spans the State, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and all actors involved in Burkina Faso’s security efforts.
The anniversary program combines strategic reflection with civic and solidarity activities. Upcoming initiatives include tree planting and visits to wounded FDS and VDP personnel, coupled with the distribution of donations, demonstrating the CIMDH’s ongoing human and social commitment.
Established on February 23, 2005, the CIMDH reaffirms its dedication to reform and adaptation, positioning itself as a strategic instrument for the progressive popular revolution, the protection of human dignity, and the promotion of Burkina Faso’s international standing.
This milestone underscores Burkina Faso’s continued focus on integrating human rights and international humanitarian law into its governance and security framework.
