Beni: 11 years of ADF massacres, the population demands better protection

On 2 October 2025, the population of the Beni territory in North Kivu commemorated 11 years since the start of the massacres perpetrated by ADF rebels, which since 2014 have resulted in the deaths of at least 10,000 civilians and the displacement of entire villages. In Oicha, scientists, civil society actors and security officials organised a public forum to analyse the causes of the persistent insecurity and issued an urgent appeal to the government to strengthen its strategy for protecting the population.

Participants also recommended support measures, including tax exemptions for affected communities, to alleviate the suffering of a population traumatised by more than a decade of violence.
