Azawad Forces Claim Drone and Armored Vehicle Attacks in Kidal Region
Kidal Region, April 7, 2026 - Armed activity intensified in northern Mali after Azawad forces announced two coordinated military operations targeting Malian and allied positions in the Kidal region. In a statement accompanied by video material, the group said it carried out suicide drone strikes against positions held by the Malian Armed Forces and Russian personnel associated with the African Corps in Aguelhok. The group claimed the strikes caused casualties and material damage, though these assertions could not be independently verified. The same day, the group also reported a separate attack targeting an armored vehicle in Tioraghen, located approximately 35 kilometers south of Kidal. According to its statement, this second operation likewise resulted in casualties and equipment losses. No official confirmation of the incidents or their reported outcomes had been issued by Malian authorities at the time of reporting. The claims come amid continued insecurity in northern Mali, where multiple armed actors remain active and frequently report clashes with government and allied forces.
