Army Says It Repelled RSF Drone Attack On Diling

By Amina Kabasele2 min read

Diling, August 7, 2026 - The Sudanese army said it repelled a Rapid Support Forces drone attack on Diling in South Kordofan, as fighting continued to pressure one of the state's most important urban centers. Army units from the 54th Brigade shot down an RSF kamikaze drone targeting forward defensive positions outside the town.

Diling neighborhoods had also come under artillery fire a day earlier, with no casualties reported. The town has faced sustained pressure for months from the RSF and allied forces from the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North faction led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu.

The use of artillery and drones underscores the widening military threat to South Kordofan and the risks to supply routes and civilian movement. In neighboring North Kordofan, five civilians were killed and others wounded when RSF fighters attacked Al-Tamid village south of El Obeid.

The incident adds to insecurity around El Obeid, a strategically important city for movement between central Sudan, Kordofan and Darfur.
