Army-Allied Darfur Groups Claim Strike On RSF Desert Supply Convoy

Khartoum, August 24, 2026 - Sudanese army-allied forces said they destroyed a Rapid Support Forces convoy in the northern desert near the Libya-Darfur corridor, underscoring the growing importance of cross-border supply routes in the war.

The Joint Force, an alliance of Darfur armed groups fighting alongside the Sudanese army and local militias, said the operation was intended to cut routes used to move weapons and fuel from Libya into western Sudan.

Spokesperson Mutawakil Ali Wakeel said allied troops destroyed 49 combat vehicles, captured 30 operational vehicles and a fuel tanker, and detained 70 RSF fighters. He also said the force seized batteries used to power unmanned aerial vehicles, while four Joint Force personnel were killed, including a major.

The Sudanese army had sent reinforcements in July to remote desert areas in Northern State, including al-Khanaq and al-Rahib, to tighten control over transit corridors linking eastern Libya to western Sudan.

Control of these desert routes is strategically significant: disruption of RSF supply lines could affect the balance of forces in Darfur and Northern State, while continued fighting in remote corridors raises risks for cross-border trade, fuel flows, and regional security.
