African Development Bank Supports Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in Crisis Response
Niamey, December 17, 2025 - At the headquarters of the Niger Red Cross, a workshop was launched for the project “Strengthening Community Resilience and Humanitarian Capacities for a Sustainable Response to Crises in the Sahel.” The initiative is funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and targets Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.
The event was inaugurated by Ms. Bako Hassana Moumouni Sako, Director General of the Niger Red Cross, alongside Mr. Alhassane Youssoufa, Secretary General, and his deputy Mr. Massalatchi Amadou, as well as Mr. Papa Moussa Tall, Head of Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and representatives from the three countries.
The three-year project aims to strengthen regional cooperation for more effective and coordinated responses to crises, with a focus on border management, preventing population displacement, and reducing the spread of epidemics. It also seeks to enhance the capacities of National Societies for a sustainable and efficient humanitarian response.
Over four days, participants discussed mechanisms for developing a project that meets the aspirations of communities in areas affected by armed conflict, droughts, floods, and epidemics.
The Director General emphasized that Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger share a common destiny: ensuring a better future, solid hope, and tangible results for their populations. The head of the sector group delegation highlighted the process leading to the AfDB’s support for this critical initiative.
