AFC/M23 Denounces DRC Ceasefire Announcement as Misleading
GOMA, February 13, 2026 - Corneille Nangaa, Chairman of the AFC/M23 Alliance, has denounced the announcement by the Office of the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo that President Félix Tshisekedi has “accepted” a ceasefire requested by the Angola government, calling it misleading as attacks by the DRC army continue.
On February 13, the Presidential Office stated that acceptance of the ceasefire would include no expansion of military bases, no reinforcement of forces in conflict areas, and halting foreign support. Nangaa, however, emphasized that AFC/M23 remains committed to the Doha peace process, which is grounded in respecting political obligations and achieving peace through dialogue.
Nangaa accused the DRC government of attempting to launch new negotiations while existing talks are still ongoing, warning that this approach risks undermining earlier progress and delaying solutions to urgent issues. He said:
“Contrary to the declaration of acceptance of the ceasefire, the Kinshasa government has demonstrated through verified actions the continuation of the war. Attacks in densely populated areas, the use of mercenaries, and indiscriminate shootings affecting civilians demonstrate its choice to continue the war, violating its commitments.”
He added that the Kinshasa government’s declaration is propaganda aimed at misleading the population and the international community, while concealing the continuation of its military operations.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Mbonimpa, Permanent Secretary of AFC/M23, told journalists in Goma that DRC government forces launched further attacks on the morning of February 13.
