AFC/M23 And DRC Agree Roadmap To Advance Doha Peace Process
Kigali, August 23, 2026 - The AFC/M23 coalition and the Democratic Republic of Congo government agreed on a roadmap to advance the peace process and monitor implementation of the Doha negotiations, a step with direct relevance for Rwanda's regional security outlook.
The agreement followed a five-day meeting in Switzerland from August 17 to 21. Both sides reviewed progress in the talks and examined issues that have delayed implementation of prior commitments.
The process matters for Kigali because insecurity in eastern Congo remains central to Rwanda's risk profile, including border stability, armed-group activity and regional diplomatic pressure linked to the conflict.
