ADF Attack in Mangadu Claims Five Lives
Mangadu Beni, February 11, 2026 - Violence continues to escalate in the Beni-Mbau area, as an attack by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) fighters on Tuesday, February 10, left at least five civilians dead in Mangadu-Upende, located 7 kilometers from Mbau town in Beni territory, North Kivu.
According to Kisaki Luis, president of the local civil society organization in the Batangi Mbau group, the victims’ bodies were recovered early Wednesday morning.
“We found five bodies lying on the ground, four men and one woman. The victims were killed with firearms. Before withdrawing, the attackers placed an explosive device on one of the bodies, which is why we recovered four bodies. There is also one missing person and material damage,” Luis reported.
Civil society actors warn that attacks continue to occur despite prior warnings about ADF movements. Local leaders expressed frustration at what they describe as the inaction of security forces, noting that the armed group has carried out numerous killings since the beginning of the year.
“Right now, the population is moving towards areas considered safe, and we are tired of what is happening. Our armed forces must pursue the assailants to their strongholds. From Otomabere to here, they are carrying out a series of killings, and we don't understand this lethargy on the part of the armed forces,” lamented Kisaki Luis.
The latest attack adds to a rising climate of fear in Beni and surrounding areas, where more than 60 civilians have reportedly been killed since the start of 2026 due to ADF insurgency.
