6 Civilians Killed in Pakanza by ADF, Burials Conducted Locally and in Eringeti
Ituri, February 7, 2026 - The security situation in Walese Vonkutu chiefdom remains dire as six civilians were killed in recent attacks attributed to Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels in the village of Pakanza, south of Irumu territory.
Local youth from the Bandavilemba group mobilized on Friday to search for missing civilians and discovered the bodies in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to Piscasse Vahingania, first vice-president of the Bwanasura local youth council:
Two of the bodies were recovered and transported to Eringeti for proper burial.
Four bodies were buried on site where they were found.
Mr. Vahingania urged young people to continue cooperating with security forces to help prevent further attacks. He also called on local authorities to strengthen civilian protection and safeguard property, while encouraging the community to maintain hope despite ongoing fear and uncertainty.
The Walese Vonkutu chiefdom continues to be heavily affected by ADF activity, with local communities demanding stronger government action to restore state authority and protect civilians in this part of Ituri.
