295 New Officers Join FARDC After Completing Training at Kananga Military Academy

Kananga, Kasai-Central March 22, 2026 - A total of 295 newly trained officers were formally inducted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) during a swearing-in ceremony at the Kananga Military Academy on Saturday, March 21. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense and Veterans Affairs, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Jules Banza Mwilambwe, and several FARDC generals. The graduates represent the 37th ordinary session of the academy, which over three years trained nearly 400 cadets in applied and military sciences, as well as social and strategic military studies. In his address, Minister Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita highlighted the importance of preparing officers capable of effectively responding to current security challenges. He stressed that the graduates must embody the strength and authority of the State, maintain discipline, and uphold the laws of the Republic in defense of the Congolese people. “Your choice to join the leadership of your institution requires constant adaptation to the evolving socio-professional environment, the nation’s ambitions, and the legitimate demands of defending the national territory,” the Minister said. “You must be the reassuring face of defense and security, particularly where authority is questioned or challenged.” The ceremony included military honors, the swearing-in of officers, and the formal presentation of rank insignia, confirming the graduates as second lieutenants. A military parade and group photo concluded the event, much to the delight of families in attendance. This induction strengthens the FARDC at a critical time, as the army faces continued aggression from Rwandan-backed AFC/M23 forces, which occupy significant parts of North Kivu and South Kivu provinces. With these new officers, the FARDC aims to bolster its operational capacity and safeguard the territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
