13 Rwandans Join MMA as New Athletes Following Training Course

Rebero, Rwanda - December 20-21, 2025

The Rwanda Mixed Martial Arts Association (GAMMA Rwanda) has officially welcomed 13 new MMA athletes following a two-day technical training course, marking the second such program since the sport’s legalization in Rwanda. The course, held at The Great Warriors Sport Academy in Rebero, drew 28 participants, mostly young Rwandans, along with four foreigners.

The training aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of players and coaches in this emerging combat sport. Sessions were led by international MMA trainer Lubega Ahmed Ali from Uganda.

“The majority of participants are young people who have shown a clear desire and capability to play MMA,” said Mwizerwa Dieudonné, President of GAMMA Rwanda.

Among the participants, three were from Uganda and one from Bukavu in the DRC, all already experienced in MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing, and Jiu-Jitsu.

During the course, GAMMA Rwanda officially inducted 13 new athletes who will now represent the country in national and international competitions.

Since its establishment, GAMMA Rwanda has rapidly gained recognition, becoming a member of both the International Mixed Martial Arts Association (GAMMA International) and the Federation for International Mixed Martial Arts (FIMMA), allowing Rwandan athletes to participate in global MMA events.
