Uganda Reassures Public Amid Rising Global Fuel Prices
Kampala, April 15, 2026 - The Ugandan government has moved to reassure citizens over concerns about rising fuel prices, stating that sufficient national reserves are in place to cushion the impact of global market fluctuations.
In a statement issued on April 14, 2026, authorities indicated that fuel supply remains stable, with an additional 119 million liters expected to arrive via the Port of Mombasa on April 15.
According to the Uganda National Oil Company, the country continues to closely monitor developments in international oil markets, while maintaining that domestic prices are unlikely to experience significant increases in the short term.
Officials attributed the recent rise in global fuel prices to multiple external factors, including currency fluctuations-particularly the strength of the US dollar-as well as ongoing geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
“These global developments continue to influence oil prices worldwide,” the statement noted, while emphasizing that measures are being taken to limit the impact on consumers.
The government added that it is actively managing pricing mechanisms to ensure fuel remains accessible and affordable for the population.
The reassurances come amid heightened volatility in global energy markets, particularly following disruptions linked to tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz-a critical route through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes.
Recent reports indicate that oil prices have surpassed $100 per barrel after ceasefire negotiations involving the United States and Iran failed to yield an agreement, further intensifying uncertainty in global supply chains.
Ugandan authorities say they will continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust policies as needed to maintain supply stability and protect consumers.
