Rwanda Reclaims Undeveloped Industrial Plots To Improve Land Use
Kigali, August 31, 2026 - Rwanda reclaimed 15 additional industrial plots from investors that failed to develop them within agreed timelines, reinforcing the government's push to ensure scarce industrial land is put to productive use.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry said the repossessions covered six plots in Rwamagana Industrial Park, four in Rusizi, three in Huye and two in Musanze. The plots are expected to be reallocated through the Irembo platform.
Industrial park occupancy stands at about 59 percent, with roughly 290 plots still available. Investors are generally required to start construction within six months and complete projects within 24 months, with persistent non-compliance triggering phased repossession.
The government is prioritising Rwamagana, Musanze, Muhanga and the Bugesera Special Economic Zone as it targets fuller operationalisation by at least 2029. Dedicated park management teams and incentives are intended to improve execution and attract more credible industrial investors.
