By Sarah Ndaya2 min read

Bukavu, South Kivu, August 5, 2026 - The provincial coordinator of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation, Dr. Joseph Matundanya, announced on August 5 that the measles, rubella, and polio vaccination campaign across South Kivu’s 34 health zones has been postponed for a second time. Officials now aim to start around August 10, with a new operational window from August 11 to 15, to synchronise a quality campaign with other block-3 provinces. Originally set for July 28 to August 1, the drive had already been shifted to August 5-9. Provincial health figures for January-July 2026 listed 33,900 measles cases and 523 related deaths, underscoring pressure to deliver the campaign without further slippage.
