Bandundu Youth March for Promised RN17 Asphalt Works

By Sarah Ndaya3 min read

Bandundu, Kwilu, August 13, 2026 - On International Youth Day, August 12, young people in Bandundu marched in white along avenues Wamba, Kwango, Fatundu, and Lumumba to the provincial government seat, delivering a memorandum demanding immediate asphalt works on RN17 (Mongata-Bandundu via Kwamouth, about 240 km). Five months after President Félix Tshisekedi’s pledges at the 13th Governors’ Conference-and after Kinshasa sought African Development Bank financing for roughly 260 km-no works had started, nor had the promised Bandundu port modernisation. The memorandum also sought dedicated financing, contractor audits, and security along the axis.
