Minister Uwimana Urges Rwanda’s Youth to Protect Their Dreams

Kigali, 7 August 2026 - Minister of Gender and Family Promotion Uwimana Consolée has urged young Rwandans to stay focused on education, technology and positive values while avoiding alcohol, drugs and harmful peer pressure that could undermine their future.

Speaking to 567 children attending the 18th National Children’s Summit at the Rwandan Parliament, Uwimana described young people as the hope of their families and the country. She encouraged them to remain committed to their studies, develop technological skills and avoid distractions that could prevent them from achieving their ambitions.

The minister particularly warned against alcohol and drug use, as well as negative peer influence, urging children to make choices that support their personal development and future contribution to Rwanda.

Isimbi Kelia, Chairperson of the National Children’s Forum, called for continued efforts to protect children from challenges including drug use, abuse and family conflicts. She also encouraged young people to respect adults, value education, avoid harmful behavior and uphold Rwandan values.

Meanwhile, Assumpta Ingabire, Director-General of the National Child Development and Protection Agency, said the summit’s theme, “Tomorrow is Me,” reminds children that they have an important role to play in shaping Rwanda’s future and contributing to the wellbeing of their families and communities.

The National Children’s Council was established in 2004 after children called for a platform where they could exchange ideas and engage directly with national decision-makers and development partners.
