Gen Muhoozi Clashes with Ugandan Communications Minister
Kampala, February 8, 2026 - Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Staff and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has publicly criticized the country’s Communications Minister, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, over remarks about his social media activity.
The dispute erupted after Dr. Baryomunsi revealed that he had informed President Museveni that Gen Muhoozi’s posts on X (formerly Twitter) were interfering with his duties as Government Spokesperson.
Baryomunsi defended his stance, explaining that Gen Muhoozi’s social media posts are often jokes, not official statements, saying: "The Chief of Defence Staff does not speak on behalf of the Government of Uganda, but he likes to use X. He writes messages, deletes them, and I hope Ugandans have already made up their minds about what he writes."
The statement reportedly angered Gen Muhoozi, who responded publicly on X:"Baryomunsi, you traitor, I will never be a Minister again."
Baryomunsi replied firmly: "I have come a long way to where I am because of my own abilities, not because of anyone’s gifts. I am a self-made man. Being a Minister is not the best thing in life. My goals are much higher than that. Let’s serve Uganda. Thank you."
The feud continued online, with Gen Muhoozi demanding an apology and reconciliation, while Baryomunsi defended his independence and work ethic, stating: "My father taught me to believe in myself. He gave me freedom and I don’t suffer from Peter Pan Syndrome. Those who criticize X don’t know what we, the true Kikes, are going through. Go away a little."
This public clash highlights growing tensions within the upper echelons of Uganda’s government and the challenges posed by social media in official communications.
