Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop Receives New AfDB Country Director and UN Resident

Bamako, February 4, 2026 - Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, received the newly appointed Country Director of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Mali, Cédric Achille Mbeng Mezui, and the new Resident Coordinator of the United Nations system in Mali, Hanaa Fikry Ahmed Singer, during an official audience on Wednesday in Bamako.

The two officials were present to submit their letters of accreditation.

Focus on Multilateral Cooperation

Following formalities, discussions centered on the evolving national context and the prospects for strengthened multilateral cooperation. Minister Diop highlighted what he described as a paradigm shift in Mali’s governance, marked by renewed national ownership and revised principles guiding public action and partnerships.

He outlined Mali’s strategic development vision, which prioritizes structural transformation of the economy and enhanced mobilization of domestic resources to finance sustainable and integrated development.

Alignment with National Priorities

The minister emphasized the importance of multilateral cooperation that is better aligned with national priorities, conducted in a spirit of mutual respect, ongoing consultation, and under Malian leadership.

For their part, the AfDB Country Director and the UN Resident Coordinator reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Mali’s development agenda, in line with their respective cooperation frameworks, with the objective of improving the living conditions of the Malian population.
