Fayulu Calls Kinshasa Vehicle Technical Checks a Costly Scam

By Sarah Ndaya3 min read

Kinshasa, DRC, August 8, 2026 - Three days before Kinshasa’s August 10 launch of vehicle and motorcycle technical inspections, Lamuka leader Martin Fayulu denounced the twice-yearly control as a “scam.” He said fees of USD 30-80 before taxes were hard to justify given weak purchasing power, especially ahead of the school year, and urged city authorities to revise both frequency and cost and to publish figures explaining the schedule. The inspections are framed as a road-safety measure; Fayulu’s critique focused on affordability rather than the principle of technical checks.
