According to the head of the Ihana group, Mwami Kitwana Ngulu Séraphin, the first incident involved a member of the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) who was shot in the left foot. The exact circumstances are unclear, but local sources suggest it occurred following a heated argument with superiors. Later the same day, another FARDC soldier stabbed a young boy in the hand and attempted to shoot him moments later, sparking outrage and fear among residents already traumatized by the recurring insecurity in the region. The situation worsened further with the intervention of a militiaman from the NDC-Renovated armed group, who carried out armed robberies on Kalonge/Mubea Hill.
