EU Envoy Presents “New Approach” to Sahel to Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga

Bamako, le 17 février 2026 - Mali’s Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga held talks Tuesday with European Union Special Representative for the Sahel João Gomes Cravinho, who presented the EU’s new strategy for engagement in the Sahel, officials said.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Bamako, where the EU envoy was received in the presence of Foreign Affairs Minister Abdoulaye Diop, who formally introduced the visiting delegation.

During the visit, João Gomes Cravinho, accompanied by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Mali, outlined the key pillars of what Brussels describes as a “New Approach” to the Sahel.
