Zambia Hails Rwanda's Development as Model for Africa

Kigali, July 5, 2026 - LUSAKA, Zambia, July 5, 2026 - The Zambian government has described Rwanda's transformation since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi as a source of inspiration and an important lesson for Africa, praising the country's progress in rebuilding its economy and strengthening national unity.

The remarks were made during celebrations marking Rwanda's 32nd Liberation Day in Lusaka, where more than 500 guests, including government officials, diplomats, members of the Rwandan community, and friends of Rwanda, gathered for the occasion.

Representing the Zambian government, Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe commended Rwanda's recovery and development, saying the country's experience demonstrates the importance of perseverance, unity, and long-term vision. He also reaffirmed Zambia's commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Rwanda in line with the African Union's Agenda 2063 and thanked the Rwandan community for its contribution to Zambia's development.

Rwanda's Ambassador to Zambia, Emmanuel Bugingo, highlighted the country's economic progress since 1994, noting sustained growth driven by reforms, investment, and expansion of the service sector. He also encouraged Rwandans living in Zambia to continue promoting values of hard work, unity, and patriotism while contributing to stronger relations between the two countries.
