Water Utility Seeks Shs650 Billion To Expand Supply In 50 Towns

By Jean-Marc Okito2 min read

Kampala, August 29, 2026 - The National Water and Sewerage Corporation is seeking Shs650 billion to boost water supply in 50 towns as demand increasingly outstrips available capacity.

Engineer Mugisha said the investment is needed to close widening gaps between supply and consumption across growing urban centers. The utility's request points to mounting pressure on Uganda's water infrastructure as towns expand and household and commercial demand rises.

The proposed financing would support service reliability in multiple municipalities, a priority for public health, real estate development and industrial activity.

For investors, the funding push signals continued opportunities in urban infrastructure, water systems, construction and municipal service delivery, while also highlighting the fiscal burden of keeping pace with rapid urban growth.
