UN Special Envoy Huang Xia Urges Stronger Mobilization for Peace in Eastern DRC
Kinshasa, November 18, 2025 - Following a meeting with President Félix Tshisekedi at the African Union City complex, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Huang Xia, called on African and international stakeholders to strengthen efforts to end the crisis in eastern DRC.
Huang emphasized the need for coordinated action between continental initiatives, the United States, and the mediation efforts led by Qatar. He reaffirmed the United Nations’ unwavering commitment to support the region, while cautioning about the deteriorating security situation and stressing the urgent need for immediate de-escalation alongside long-term solutions to restore stability in the Great Lakes region.
