UN Expert Warns of Escalating Violence in Mali
Bamako, November 12, 2025 - The UN Independent Expert on Human Rights, Eduardo Gonzalez Cueva, painted an alarming picture of escalating violence, drone strikes targeting civilians, persistent impunity, and security gaps following the withdrawal of MINUSMA and the end of the Algiers Agreement.
Mr. Gonzalez called for an inclusive solution to the crisis, including the resumption of political dialogue, reopening of civic space, and lifting of the state of emergency. He stressed that Mali still possesses immense potential to pursue a path toward a peaceful and lasting democracy.
