UN Documents Sharp Rise In June Human Rights Violations

Kinshasa, August 24, 2026 - The UN Joint Human Rights Office documented 657 human rights violations in the DRC in June 2026, a 36 percent increase from May, highlighting the continuing deterioration in conflict-affected provinces.

The violations affected 1,187 victims, with 74 percent recorded in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. The AFC/M23 accounted for 216 cases, while the Congolese armed forces were linked to 94 and the national police to 63.

The findings also pointed to a worsening rights environment linked to the Ebola crisis and to shrinking civic space amid tensions over constitutional reform.
