UK Supports Mali’s Fight Against Lymphatic Filariasis with ELFA Project HandoverBamako, Mali - November 20, 2025
On Thursday, His Excellency Mr. Angus McKee, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Mali, attended the official closing ceremony of the ELFA project and the handover of surgical equipment for the treatment of lymphatic filariasis-related complications. The event was organized by the Ministry of Health and Social Development, through the Directorate General of Public Health and Population (DGSHP).
The ELFA project, implemented by Sightsavers with the support of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), aims to strengthen Mali’s health system and improve the quality of life for people affected by neglected tropical diseases.
The newly delivered surgical equipment is designed to enhance the management of hydrocele and elephantiasis cases, supporting Mali’s national strategy to eliminate lymphatic filariasis as a public health problem.
Ambassador McKee emphasized the United Kingdom’s ongoing commitment to Mali, underscoring the importance of international collaboration in addressing public health challenges and building sustainable health infrastructure in the country.
