Former Botswana President Joins Rwandans In Umuganda
Kigali, August 29, 2026 - Former Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi joined Rwandans in community service during an umuganda activity, highlighting Rwanda's monthly civic work tradition and its use as a diplomatic soft-power tool.
The participation took place during a broader visit to Kigali and was framed as a gesture of solidarity with Rwanda's model of collective community service. Masisi took part alongside local residents in a public cleanliness and community development exercise.
The event reinforced people-to-people ties between Rwanda and southern Africa. For Kigali, such high-profile participation in umuganda supports its presentation of disciplined civic culture to visiting leaders and partners.
