UK Ambassador Alyson King Ends Three-Year Diplomatic Mission in the DRC

Kinshasa, April 19, 2026 - The British Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo has held a farewell ceremony for outgoing Ambassador Alyson King, marking the conclusion of her three-year diplomatic mission in Kinshasa.

The event, attended by political, diplomatic, and institutional figures, highlighted the ambassador’s tenure, during which she focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and the DRC, with emphasis on investment promotion, climate action, and economic cooperation.

During her remarks, Alyson King said relations between London and Kinshasa had deepened significantly over the past three years, despite periods marked by humanitarian pressures and security challenges, particularly in the eastern part of the country.

She noted that the United Kingdom had supported humanitarian responses during crises while also contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening national systems and community resilience.

The outgoing ambassador also underscored ongoing cooperation in peacebuilding initiatives, stressing that sustainable peace remained a central priority of UK engagement in the region. She pointed to continued collaboration with Congolese authorities and international partners aimed at addressing insecurity and supporting stabilization efforts.

Alyson King also highlighted economic diplomacy achievements during her tenure, including the promotion of investment ties and the establishment of the UK-DRC Chamber of Commerce, which she described as part of broader efforts to expand commercial engagement between the two countries.

She further referenced high-level diplomatic exchanges as evidence of a growing strategic partnership between the two states.

Before her appointment in Kinshasa, she served as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Lebanon. She formally began her role in the DRC after presenting her credentials to President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo on June 8, 2023.

At the end of her mission, she reaffirmed her commitment to continuing support for peace, security, and sustainable development initiatives in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
