Uganda Breweries Contributes Shs1.127 Trillion to National Economy
KAMPALA, July 14, 2026 - Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) contributed an estimated Shs1.127 trillion to Uganda’s economy in 2024 through its operations, supply chain activities and wider business network, according to a new economic assessment.
The report shows that the company’s contribution came from multiple areas, including direct operations, suppliers, employee spending and businesses involved in distributing and selling its products.
UBL’s direct activities generated economic value through employee earnings and company operations, while local procurement supported additional growth among suppliers and service providers.
The company’s wider distribution network, including wholesalers, retailers, hospitality businesses and entertainment venues, also contributed significantly to economic activity.
The assessment highlighted the company’s role in employment creation, with thousands of jobs supported across its supply chain, distribution channels and consumer economy.
Beyond manufacturing, UBL continues to work with tens of thousands of smallholder farmers supplying agricultural inputs such as barley and sorghum, providing access to farming support, training and market opportunities.
The company purchased agricultural produce worth billions of shillings from local farmers during 2024, strengthening links between agriculture and manufacturing.
UBL also contributed significantly to government revenue through taxes generated from its operations, suppliers, employees and downstream businesses involved in its value chain.
Company officials said the economic impact reflects the role of local manufacturing in supporting farmers, transporters, distributors, retailers and other businesses connected to industrial activity.
The company called for stronger cooperation between government, regulators and industry players to address challenges affecting the manufacturing sector, including the growth of illicit alcohol markets.
UBL said continued investment in local sourcing, production and supply chains remains central to supporting Uganda’s industrial development and sustainable economic growth.
