Uganda And Türkiye Prepare To Deepen Economic Cooperation

Kampala, August 5, 2026 - Uganda and Türkiye are moving to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation by fast-tracking pending agreements and preparing for high-level engagements focused on trade, investment, health and innovation.

The push followed a working meeting between Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Nusura Tiperu, and Ambassador Henry Mayega, who heads international economic cooperation at Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions reviewed the state of Uganda-Türkiye relations and the coordination needed between Kampala and Uganda’s embassy in Ankara.

The agenda centred on pending bilateral agreements, institutional coordination, trade and investment diplomacy, and preparations for two upcoming high-level engagements between the countries. The emphasis on implementation suggests Kampala is seeking to convert diplomatic ties into more structured commercial outcomes.

For investors, the talks point to Uganda’s continued use of bilateral diplomacy to diversify trade and investment partnerships beyond traditional markets. The focus on health and innovation also indicates that cooperation may extend beyond goods trade into services, technology-linked activity and sector-specific investment promotion.
