Tshisekedi Opens Haut-Katanga Palace Of Justice In Lubumbashi
Lubumbashi, August 1, 2026 - President Félix Tshisekedi inaugurated the new Haut-Katanga Palace of Justice in Lubumbashi, presenting the facility as an upgrade to judicial infrastructure in one of the DRC's most economically important regions.
The ceremony was attended by governors from the Katanga region and members of the High Council of the Magistracy, led by Dieudonné Kamuleta, president of the Constitutional Court. The building covers about 1,430 square meters and includes courtrooms, administrative offices, meeting rooms, archives, an IT and server room, and modern security and fire safety systems.
The inauguration followed a July 28 reshuffle across the magistracy, including appointments, dismissals and forced retirements in several judicial bodies, among them the Constitutional Court and military courts. Kilomba Nguz was dismissed for failing to assume the presidency of the Court of Cassation in 2020, while First President Elie Leon Ndomba and Prosecutor General Firmin Mvonde retained their posts.
The project comes as the judiciary remains central to governance debates, including political discussions around constitutional reform and the referendum issue. For Haut-Katanga, a mining hub, the facility is intended to improve the functioning and accessibility of courts in a province with significant commercial and administrative caseloads.
