Tshisekedi in Luanda Amid Renewed Violence in Eastern DRC

By Jean-Marc Okito2 min readFrançais

President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) arrived in Luanda, Angola, on Sunday, December 14, for a working visit, according to several sources.

The visit is reportedly aimed at reviving the Luanda process, a regional diplomatic initiative to restore peace in eastern DRC, amid continued violence in the Kivu region linked to the M23 armed group. According to Le Potentiel, the talks seek to reinforce regional mediation efforts.

Other sources say Tshisekedi met with Angolan President João Lourenço to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional peace and security in Central Africa.

The visit comes days after the DRC-Rwanda peace agreement, signed on December 4, 2025, in Washington, under US mediation. Despite the accord, fighting has intensified, with the AFC/M23, allegedly backed by Kigali, seizing several towns in South Kivu, including the strategic city of Uvira.
