Three Wazalendo Fighters Killed in Clash with FARDC Soldier in Mungazi
Walikale, March 11, 2026 - Tensions erupted on Tuesday, March 10, in Mungazi, located in the Luberike area of Walikale Territory, following a deadly confrontation between a FARDC soldier and members of the Wazalendo militia. The clash left three Wazalendo fighters dead.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding between the soldier and the group of militia members, though the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear. During the altercation, the soldier opened fire, killing all three Wazalendo fighters instantly.
The situation was brought under control within hours, but the gunfire caused panic among the local population. The soldier involved was detained by military authorities and is currently under questioning.
The three victims were buried locally on Wednesday morning. This incident is part of a pattern of clashes in Mungazi, where previous confrontations between FARDC soldiers and Wazalendo fighters in 2025 also resulted in deaths and injuries.
