Thousands Gather For National Thanksgiving At Amahoro Stadium
Kigali, August 16, 2026 - Thousands of Christians gathered at Amahoro Stadium for Rwanda Shima Imana 2026, a national thanksgiving event focused on worship, prayer and reflection on the country's transformation over the past three decades.
Prime Minister Justin Nsengiyumva joined participants from churches across the country. The gathering brought together congregations from different parts of Rwanda for a shared moment of faith, remembrance and national reflection.
Organizers presented the event as both a celebration of progress since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and a call for continued peace, unity and development. For Rwanda, the scale of the gathering underscored the continuing role of faith-based mobilization in public life and national commemorative culture.
