Tanzanian Police Arrest Suspects Over Alleged Plot to Attack Officials
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, July 6, 2026 - Tanzanian police say they have arrested several suspects in connection with an alleged plot to organize unlawful protests and carry out violent attacks targeting government officials and public institutions. Police spokesperson David Misime announced the arrests during a press briefing in Dar es Salaam, stating that security agencies had uncovered plans involving the use of social media and online groups to encourage acts of violence and public disorder. According to police, the alleged plans included attacks on government officials, destruction of public and private property, arson targeting schools, and assaults on security personnel with the intention of seizing their weapons. Authorities said investigations are ongoing and that additional suspects remain under surveillance, although the number of those arrested has not been disclosed. Police maintained that the country's security situation remains stable and urged the public to continue their daily activities while cooperating with law enforcement by reporting information that could help prevent criminal acts. Authorities said security agencies remain on alert to safeguard public order and national security.
